Metacognition is a critical competency for developing self-directed, future-ready learners. In this symposium, join us as we present insights into Singapore secondary students’ metacognition for learning and transfer, drawn from quantitative, qualitative, and neural imaging perspectives. Discover our joint efforts with teachers to enhance students’ metacognition through a student-focused Metacognition Intervention Programme and a Professional Development Programme in Metacognition designed to strengthen teachers’ metacognitive practices. Metacognitive strategies that drive meaningful learning and potential transfer—emerging from real classroom interventions and practices—will be discussed and showcased by participating teachers.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Presentations by researchers with insights into students’ metacognitive strengths and challenges, as well as teachers’ metacognitive competence and practices from multiple lenses
- Riveting showcase and presentations by participating teachers who designed and implemented lessons infusing metacognition.
- Networking with members of the research team comprising NIE experts, MOE curriculum specialists, and officers.
